We had a very successful training today with the Community of Konei, Entasopia, Magadi ward, who have been gravely affected by the flooding situation last month.
After our relief intervention that involved supply of food, bedding and sanitary towels, we sat down to train the people at risk areas- mapping out homesteads along the newly formed river to develop a risk management plan as well as understand how to effectively mitigate/reduce the losses from such unprecedented events.
This involved conducting a SWOT analysis with them, brainstorming on future early interventions, as well as the formation of a village disaster management committee to coordinate disaster & risk reduction efforts at the levels.
We look forward to a more climate-resilient, informed community that has the capacity to anticipate & respond to weather extremes.
